"Acerbically Hilarious" Elvira Kurt Headlines
13th Annual Pride Comedy Night
Comedy Central gay comedians bring the political and personal to
Santa Rosa, June 9 at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts
Santa Rosa, CA (May 10, 2007) - Elvira Kurt, called "acerbically
hilarious" by the Boston Herald and star of Com edy Central,
takes the stage June 9 in Santa Rosa for the 13th Annual Pride Comedy
Night. She'll be joined by special guest Eddie Sarfaty, also of Comedy
Central fame. The performance begins at 8pm.
An alumna of The Second City comedy troupe, Kurt
has performed live and on television in the U.S. and Canada, including
on Comedy Central, HBO, Showtime and now as the host of First
Comes Love on
LOGO. Recently she hosted, wrote and produced 78 episodes of The
Comedy Network's hit late-night talk show, Popcultured with
Elvira Kurt, a satirical take on the inane and excessive world
of pop culture.
Kurt's versatility as a stand-up comedian carries
over into her work in the theater and as a writer. She's appeared
in The Vagina
Monologues and has written material for Ellen DeGeneres and
numerous awards shows. She performed for Sonoma County Pride Comedy
night in 2001, and audience members can expect even more of her hilarious
stories and insights on the absurdity of modern life, the fractured
nostalgia of our childhood, and our continuous struggle against turning
into our parents.
Special guest comic Eddie Sarfaty is a popular comedian
who's appeared on The Today Show, Nightline and Comedy
Central's Premium
Blend. He's appeared at numerous comedy festivals, has headlined
on Atlantis, Aquafest and RSVP cruises, and is a member of Funny
Gay Males, a comedy troupe. This will be Sarfaty's first visit to
Sonoma County. His perspective as a gay Jewish New Yorker is both
focused on his own experience, yet universally understood as the
comedy of family relations.
