Get Ready to Grove as Reggae Grammy-Winner Ziggy Marley, Son of the Legendary
Bob Marley, Pairs Up with Pedal Steel Guitarist
Robert Randolph & The Family Band
Santa Rosa, CA (April 30, 2007) - Experience all colors of the musical
spectrum as two amazing headliners pair up for one evening of musical
bliss on stage, May 15 at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. Pedal
steel guitarist Robert Randolph & The Family Band take the stage
first, followed by Ziggy Marley, winner of the 2007 Grammy Award
for Best Reggae Album. The show starts at 8pm.
ZIGGY MARLEY
"This album is from my heart," says Ziggy Marley of his second solo
album, Love is My Religion (Tuff Gong Worldwide). Embracing
both the spiritual and emotional side of life, Ziggy has definitively
come into his own as an artist. The twelve-track album showcases
Ziggy's tightly rolled talents as a songwriter (writing all cuts),
musician (playing most of the instruments) and producer (shepherding
all dozen tracks, with three co- produced by Grammy-winner Ross Hogarth).
The son of the legendary Bob Marley and a native of Kingston , Jamaica
, Ziggy first sat in on recording sessions with his father when he
was ten years old. Joining with his three siblings to become The
Melody Makers, Ziggy crafted his own soulful sound blending blues,
R&B, hip-hop and reggae.
ROBERT RANDOLPH & THE FAMILY BAND
"We wanted to take our time and find ourselves," says Robert Randolph. "Find
out what was really inside of me and the band and bring that out.
Really try to come up with the best songs, dig deep within, and let
all of the experiences that we have had in the last three years come
out in the music" "With Colorblind , Randolph & the
Family Band have taken the difficult leap from being great performing
artists to being great recording artists. Since emerging from a House
of God church in Orange , New Jersey steeped in the "sacred steel" tradition,
Randolph 's astonishing pedal steel playing has had a revolutionary
impact. Like a mere handful of musicians - Louis Armstrong, Jimi
Hendrix, Stevie Wonder - he has actually been able to redefine the
sonic possibilities of his instrument. Randolph 's string wizardry
is the focal point of the Family Band's legendary live appearances,
and has led to guest spots with artists ranging from the Blind Boys
of Alabama to Ozzy Osbourne. Robert Randolph & the Family Band
performed at the Grammy Awards in February, where they were nominated
for two awards and introduced by Samuel L. Jackson as "the new blood
of funk."
